Acne is the worst. It’s something that I’ve been struggling with for years. Luckily, I had the pleasure of meeting Angela Caglia, a celebrity facialist. A-list celebrities and supermodels are all fans of her facials. She was kind enough to share three acne fighting tips she has for dealing with breakouts.
First up is LED Light Therapy. LED stands for Light-Emitting Diode. NASA noticed an increase in plant growth under a certain wavelength of light and tested out a theory to see if these benefits could be applied to humans. What they discovered is that the lights speed up the healing of wounds. The results were positive and this research has since been applied to other areas in the beauty industry. To quote Charlotte’s Book: “if it’s good enough for NASA, it’s good enough for us.” According to Angela, blue light is especially great for acne because it has a high frequency to kill bacteria. LED light therapy devices used to be really expensive in the past but lately I’ve been noticing some more affordable options entering the market, like this mask device or spot treatment which are both under $30.
As acne prone skin is often inflamed, cool compresses like jade rollers help reduce the swelling. Angela used a jade roller on me during my facial and it soothed my skin and had a calming influence. My grandmother has been using her jade roller for over 50 years!
Our first product that we launched at Mount Lai was the The Jade Roller which helps de-puff and soothe the skin. Because of its naturally cooling properties, it is perfect for calming skin irritated by acne.
When it comes to skincare products, Angela recommends products that contain sulfur or tea tree for treating + purifying the skin to keep adult acne at bay. As acne treatments can be drying, it’s also important to counter this with hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid.
To recap, here are Angela Caglia’s three acne-fighting tips to dealing with breakouts:
1. Use LED light therapy to kill the bacteria that can cause acne.
2. Soothe inflamed and irritated skin with jade rollers.
3. Choose products that have acne-fighting ingredients like sulfur or tea tree oil.
