Kylie Jenner might be known for her lip kits and her glosses, but she recently released something new, which she calls a Metal Matte. So, what are these metal mattes? They’re liquid lipstick meets metallic, almost like a shimmery matte. Read more for my full review and some swatches of what the colors look like!
The packaging is very similar to the Kylie Cosmetics Glosses except the art on the boxes matches the color of the metal matte enclosed. Brush wise, the Metal Matte brushes are the same as the brushes for the liquid lipsticks in the lip kits. As with the glosses, Kylie recommends using a lip liner with the metal mattes although I have found that they are fairly easy to apply and I have had no problems using them without lip liner. So far, Kylie has released three metal matte shades – Heir, King K & Reign.
Heir is described as a pinkish gold metallic and reminds me a lot of rose gold. Out of the three, it seems like Heir is the most popular shade as it always sells out the fastest. The color is buildable so you can apply a thin layer for sheer coverage or two layers for full coverage. Heir looks really pretty layered on top of some of the lip kit colors like Candy K or Koko K.
King K is described as a soft metallic gold. Personally, I feel like King K is the hardest to wear on its own. It is much better used layered on top of other lipstick colors or with a dab on the center and top of your lips to act as a shimmery highlight.
Reign is described as a bronzy copper metallic. It was surprisingly my favorite out of the three and is more of a burgundy than a copper. Reign has a really rich, complex color with red, bronze and brown tones. One of my favorite lip combinations is to apply Reign and then add a dab of King K to the center of my lips for a golden-burgundy mix. Another layered combination I love is to apply a thin layer of Tom Ford Lip and Boys Joaquin over Reign.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the metal mattes. They’re extremely versatile and can be worn layered or on their own. Reign might be my favorite lip color that Kylie has released so far in her entire line. It’s surprisingly flattering on everyone and the perfect lip to wear for a night out.
