A few months ago, Good Science Beauty approached me and introduced me to their patented Good Silicon+™. The “Good” part of that name is pretty straightforward, but “Silicon+” might need a little explanation. Silicon (not be be confused with silicone, a synthetic material), is the second most abundant element in the earth’s crust, after oxygen. You can find it in all kinds of foods and drinks, like bananas, whole-grain bread, nuts, brown rice and even regular drinking water from your tap. But beyond digesting it with our food, silicon can also do wonders for your skin.
So, what makes this Silicon good? It’s all based on the life-long research of Dr. Suzanne Saffie-Siebert, Ph.D. She set out to create a delivery system that works in sync with effective ingredients, such as willow bark extract, amino acids and hyaluronic acid. Essentially, Good Silicon+™ helps deliver ingredients more effectively.
The Silicon is structured like a honeycomb and inside these pockets are different skincare ingredients. Its honeycomb-like shape holds and protects proven ingredients, delivering them deep within the skin, directly to the underlying source of your skin issues. Because lipids are part of the outer layer of the skin, the product is drawn into the skin. On top of that, Good Silicon+™ is positively charged while skin is negatively charged and opposites attract, which helps the product soak easily into the skin.
Not only does Good Silicon+™ allow your skin to get the ingredients it needs but also helps stimulate your natural collagen production and keeps your skin strong. I don’t know about you but I always love learning the science behind skincare and how it works. If I’m making the extra effort to take care of my skin, I like knowing that my skincare is actually effective.
My favorite collection from Good Science Beauty is probably the Purifying Collection, since it was specifically formulated for blemish prone skin aggravated by city living. This is my exact skin type!! My friends and I have been talking about how we think NYC pollution has been negatively impacting our skin.
The Purifying Face Mask is my once-a-week holy grail mask. Even though it reduces oiliness, it doesn’t make my skin feel super dry afterwards. I get pretty bad hormonal acne and I feel like using this consistently has helped those breakouts.
I use the Purifying Face Cream at night after my serum. It has willow bark extract, which is great for clearing the pores, shedding dead cells and reducing inflammation. Like the mask, even though it helps control excess oil, it is still moisturizing and nourishing.
In the mornings, I typically use the Hydrating Face Cream because I feel like it plumps up my skin and preps my face for makeup. My skin loves anything with hyaluronic acid in it! I like to use a generous amount and bring it down my neck because it’s important to take care of the skin on your neck as well! I would say that the Hydrating Face Cream lives up to its name and is deeply hydrating without any greasiness.
Overall, I’m super impressed with the amount of research and science that went behind formulating these products. As an added plus, the products aren’t tested on animals! You can find these products on the Good Science Beauty website.
