Review: Find Your Light With Glossier Haloscope

Glossier recently launched a new product – a highlighter that goes by the name of Haloscope! It comes in two shades, Quartz & Golden Topaz and contains real crystal. I went to the Haloscope launch party at the Glossier Penthouse earlier this week (you can read my post here) and was so excited to test out the products. My two Glossier Haloscopehighlighters finally arrived in the mail yesterday so I was able to do a formal blog post about them. Read more for my review, swatches and thoughts!

What it is:

According to the Glossier website, Haloscope is a dew effect highlighter. Essentially, it is skincare + makeup combined into one. The outer “halo” is infused with genuine crystal extracts and the middle contains a solid oil core of vitamin-rich moisturizers.

Ingredient Benefits:

The outer halo of the highlighter might be made with real crystals but the oil core is filled with hydrating ingredients that make skin dewy and also makes Haloscope super easy to blend. The oil core contains coconut and Castor Seed Oil, which are both rich in vitamin E. Haloscope also includes Sweet Almond Oil, super moisturizer rich in fatty acids.

Shades & Swatches:

The two shades for Glossier Haloscope that were released are called Quartz (on the left) and Golden Topaz (on the right). At first glance, many people choose Quartz because they think that the Golden Topaz would be too dark or too yellow-toned for their skin. However, the shades are for two different intentions. Quartz is a universally flattering, pearlescent highlight while Golden Topaz is used to get a healthy, sun-kissed glow.

Glossier has amazing swatches on people who wear Skin Tint in Light and Deep on their website but none of the middle-range skin tones. The above swatch is my own from the Glossier launch party, top is Quartz and bottom is Golden Quartz. For reference, I wear Skin Tint in Medium.

How to Use:

So, how do you use this dew-infused highlighter? Glossier provided a guide of where to highlight. I’ve included the picture from their website below for easy access.

My favorite places to highlight are the inner corners of the eyes and my cupid’s bow because I feel like it really brightens the face and gives it a dewy, glowy look.

Overall Thoughts:

Lately, it seems like every brand has been coming out with highlighters, two recent launches being Pat McGrath’s Skin Fetish 003 (review here) and the new Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop palette. Haloscope reminds me a lot of the balm in Pat Mcgrath’s Skin Fetish but at a fraction of the price. Overall, it leaves skin with a hydrated dewy finish and the oil core gives skin a glow without looking too shimmery or powdery. Glossier Haloscope is definitely a winner in my book.
